Pastor to Sue China

An American Christian pastor, one of seven evangelists expelled from China under tough new anti-proselytizing laws, said Wednesday that he would take legal action against the Chinese authorities who threw him out.

David Balcombe, a pastor at the Revival Church in Hong Kong, told a news conference that Public Security Bureau officers robbed him of 100,000 Hong Kong dollars ($12,500) in cash and valuables, refused to let him contact his embassy and roughed up one of his ethnic Chinese travelling companions.

Balcombe and six colleagues, two of them American, two Indonesian and two from Hong Kong, were expelled from China on Tuesday after being detained for four days in Henan province in the west, charged them with breaking China's tough new religion laws.
