Overtime Goal Gives Maple Leafs Win

TORONTO -- Wendel Clark's power-play goal at 2:55 of overtime lifted the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 5-4 victory over the Detroit Red Wings.

The win moved Toronto two points ahead of Detroit and idle Dallas atop the Central Division. The Maple Leafs' 71 points is also tops in the Western Conference and second overall behind the New York Rangers (76).

With Steve Chaisson off for holding, Clark rifled a wrist shot from the high slot past Tim Cheveldae for his 27th goal of the season.

Detroit forced overtime when Steve Yzerman scored his 15th goal of the season with eight seconds remaining in regulation.

Doug Gilmour, Peter Zezel and Rob Pearson also scored for Toronto, 3-1-1 against Detroit this season. Vladimir Konstantinov scored twice for Detroit, which lost for just the second time in 14 road games (11-2-1). Sergei Fedorov also scored for the Red Wings.

Capitals 2, Oilers 2. In Landover, Maryland, Bill Ranford stopped 41 shots as struggling Edmonton snapped Washington's four-game winning streak and earned a rare point on the road.

Penguins 5, Jets 3. In Pittsburgh, Rick Tocchet started a three-goal first period that helped Pittsburgh stretch Winnipeg's winless streak to 0-11-2.

Islanders 2, Lightning 1. In Uniondale, New York, Mick Vukota and Steve Thomas scored 49 seconds apart in the first period to lead New York. The Lightning outshot the Islanders 10-0 in the third period, but couldn't tie the game.

Blues 3, Canucks 2. In St. Louis, Brett Hull tied the game with his 40th goal and then got the game-winner with 5:44 to go.

Flyers 6, Sharks 4. In San Jose, California, Rookie Mikael Renberg scored three goals in the third period to rally the Philadelphia Flyers to road victory.
