Injuries Strike England

Seamer Alan Igglesdon gave England some comfort in their predictably drawn match against Barbados, but injuries to two other pacemen have left them with a considerable headache ahead of the international matches.

Opening bowler Angus Fraser is definitely out of the opening one-day match against the West Indies on Wednesday and doubtful for the First Test three days later after suffering two bone fractures in his left hand during the Barbados match. Paceman Any Caddick is also likely to miss the opening one-day encounter due to sore shins.

After Barbados scored 192 for 5 in their second innings before declaring at tea, there was no chance England could hit the required 239 runs required for victory in the 28 overs available. The match was called off as a draw with five overs remaining with England on 48 without loss and makeshift openers Robin Smith unbeaten on 25 and Mark Ramprakash 21 not out.
