Germany Arrests Serb

BONN -- A former Bosnian Serb policeman has been arrested in Germany for allegedly beating and murdering Moslem prisoners in Bosnia, law authorities said Monday.

Dusko T., 28, could be charged with being an accessory to genocide, said the Federal Prosecutor's Office in Karlsruhe.

Other possible charges are murder and causing grievous bodily harm, it said.

German news media said his full name is Dusko Tadic.

It is the first arrest outside former Yugoslavia of someone who allegedly took part in "ethnic cleansing" crimes there.

German law provides for trying people accused of war crimes and genocide, even if the crimes occur in other countries and the suspect is not German.

Tadic was arrested Saturday in Bavaria state, where he has been living underground for several months, the federal prosecutor.

Tadic is believed to have carried out atrocities in at least two Bosnian Serb detention camps in 1992.
