UNITA Site Attacked

SAO TOME, Angola () -- The Angolan rebel movement, UNITA, said government forces backed by armored cars had killed and wounded hundreds of people in an attack on a rebel position in southeastern Angola.

UNITA radio, monitored Tuesday in the island state of Sao Tome and Principe and whose report could not be independently verified, said the three-hour attack on Chivala, east of UNITA's rear base in Jamba, was the most serious violation yet of a ceasefire that came into force Nov. 22.
