Soccer Watchdog

LONDON () -- The chief executive of English soccer's premier league has called for the creation of a permanent international watchdog agency to guard against corruption in the game.

Rick Parry said Wednesday he was prepared to call on FIFA, the world governing body, and UEFA, soccer's European rulers, in a bid to help clean up the sport's scandal-hit image. "At the moment anybody can become a soccer agent without needing qualifications or a licence, but by the start of next season I'm hopeful we will have a format in place to regulate them."

Parry did not refer to recent newspaper reports surrounding Arsenal manager George Graham or other managers associated with alleged transfer irregularities.
