MOSCOW () -- Russia launched the prototype of a new intercontinental ballistic missile Tuesday, and it successfully hit its target some 7,000 kilometers away, officials said.

The Topol-M could be deployed either in silos or on mobile launchers.

The missile was launched at 11:50 A.M. from Plesetsk, a space and ballistic missile launching site in northern Russia. About 25 minutes later, it hit the target area 7,000 kilometers away on the Far Eastern peninsula of Kamchatka.
