Cash-Exchange Tracking

MOSCOW () -- Gosznak, the state mint, has printed 5 million new certificates that will be used at currency exchanges throughout Russia to register all foreign cash exchange operations, Interfax reported Monday.

The Central Bank announced earlier this month that the new certificates, part of the bank's efforts to gain further control over hard-currency circulation in Russia, will become mandatory Feb. 1, 1995. Interfax quoted the Central Bank's head of hard currency operations, Viktor Melnikov, as saying that exchanges will also be able to use the certificates for operations in letters of credit and travelers' checks.
