Russian General Will Stand Trial

A Russian general arrested last year on charges of corruption and fraud while serving with Russian forces based in Germany will go on trial on Nov. 22, Itar-Tass said Wednesday.

Nikolai Seliverstov, former first deputy commander of the 16th Air Force based in Germany, was arrested in June 1993.

Since then, Russian media have published numerous reports accusing top generals, including Defense Minister Pavel Grachev and his former first deputy General Matvei Burlakov, of corruption. Both men denied the charges but President Boris Yeltsin removed Burlakov last week.
