China Premier in Korea

SEOUL () -- Chinese Premier Li Peng met with South Korean President Kim Young-sam on Monday and agreed to further strengthen the two nations' economic and other relations.

They also agreed to cooperate closely to help implement a U.S.-brokered accord with North Korea aimed at opening its feared nuclear program to inspection, South Korean officials said.

The Li-Kim meeting was the highlight of the Chinese premier's official five-day visit to South Korea, which began Monday. Li is the highest-ranking Chinese official ever to visit South Korea, a former adversary of China.
