Angola Pact Threatened

LUANDA, Angola -- Government shelling has killed hundreds of civilians in the UNITA rebel stronghold of Huambo, UNITA radio said Tuesday, while a guerrilla commander warned that Angola's newly agreed peace pact would not be signed on schedule next week if attacks continued.

Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos and UNITA leader Jonas Savimbi had been due to sign the agreement formally on Nov. 15, to be followed two days later by a ceasefire.
