British Events: Theater, Food Art and Music

Queen Elizabeth II's upcoming visit to Moscow has inspired a host of events celebrating British culture:


?"The Man of Mode," Oct. 11-14 at the Maly Theater, 7 P.M. A bawdy 1675 comedy. Tickets, from 500-10,000 rubles, at the box office.


?A celebration of British cuisine, Oct. 12-19 at the Savoy Hotel. Starring London chefs. For reservations, call 929-8600.


?"The Card," Oct. 15-18 at the Operetta Theater, 7 P.M. A musical based on Arnold Bennett's 1911 novel about a social climber. Tickets, from 5,000-50,000 rubles, at the box office.


?Royal portraits: an exhibit including enamel miniature portraits of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother and Princess Anne created by Russian artist Alexei Maximov. At the Armory daily except Thursdays, 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. Runs until Oct. 17.


?"As You Like It," Oct. 19-22 at the Maly Theater, 7 P.M. The Cheek by Jowl troupe's all-male, modern-dress version of the Shakespeare play. Tickets, from 500-10,000 rubles, at the box office.


?Britain in Russia, Oct. 11-23 in the foyer of the Maly Theater. A free exhibit covering British-Russian commercial, political and artistic ties from the 16th century to the present. Open 1 P.M. to 5 P.M. daily and during theater performances.


?The Westminster Boys Choir, Oct. 25 at 7 P.M. at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, Oct. 26 at 7 P.M. at the Conservatory Great Hall.Tickets, from 300-5,000 rubles, at the box office.


The best tickets for the plays, in English, are selling quickly. Many choir tickets remain.
