Shushkevich Avoids Vote

MINSK, Belarus -- Parliament in Belarus Friday delayed votes of confidence in the country's reformist leader and two of his ministers, but politicians said their resignations were all but inevitable.

Deputies attending the third day of closed sittings put off indefinitely a vote of confidence inStanislav Shushkevich, the liberal chairman of parliament.

They put off until Tuesday a vote for the resignations of the interior minister and the head of security services.

Both are accused of breaking laws in the capture of two Communists, Mykola Burokevicius and Juozas Jermolavicius, both handed over to authorities in Lithuania, for allegedly helping to put down anti-Soviet protests in 1991.
