Random Tests a Success

One in every 25 athletes taking out-of-competition dope tests last year were caught using steroids, the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) said.

The IAAF said Monday that the first year of a campaign against doping through random tests was more successful than taking samples from athletes during competition. It said its 476 surprise tests, taken in 27 countries, found four percent of athletes taking steroids, compared with a figure of only 0.06 percent of positive tests during competition.
