LA Death Toll to 55

The death toll from the Los Angeles earthquake rose to 55 Friday, as officials scrambled to get aid to victims of a disaster that has forced thousands into makeshift camps since it struck Monday.

More than 20,000 people were left homeless by the pre-dawn quake which registered 6.6 on the Richter scale, the most powerful to rock America's second largest city in 20 years.

The revised death toll, which previously stood at 51, was reported by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office early Friday. Around 5,300 people were injured in the quake, 700 seriously.
