Japan Lures Protasov

Oleg Protasov became the latest overseas soccer international to move to Japan when he signed for Gamba Osaka of the J.League, club officials confirmed on Thursday.

The Ukrainian, who will be 30 next month, has been at Olympiakos in Greece for the past four years.

Protasov made his international debut in 1984, but made headlines a year later when he set a Soviet League scoring record of 35 goals in 34 games with Dnepr. He later moved on to Dinamo Kiev and Olympiakos. He made 66 full caps for the former Soviet Union team scoring 28 goals.
