Aideed in Peace Talks

Somali warlord Mohamed Farah Aideed is holding peace talks in Kenya with his rival factions and there are signs of progress, a top aide said Monday.

Issa Mohamed Siad, foreign affairs secretary for Aideed's Somalia National Alliance, said the talks were between Aideed and representatives of the "Group of 12," a coalition of factions headed by his foe Ali Mahdi Mohamed.

The talks were being held in secret sponsored by Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi at his residence in Nakuru, northwest of Nairobi, the aide said.
