Business Backs Glazyev

MOSCOW (MT) - The Joint Ventures and International Companies Association gave its backing Tuesday to Foreign Trade Minister Sergei Glazyev, who offered to resign last week.

Lev Weinberg, president of the association, told Interfax that Glazyev had played an "exceptionally positive role" in a deal over the sale of oil to India and Bulgaria, for which he has been publicly criticized, and had developed Russian exports.

The Postfactum news agency quoted Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin as saying he had received Glazyev's resignation request, but a decision would not be taken until Wednesday. "We still have to consider the accusations against him", Chernomyrdin said.
