McDonald's has celebrated the opening of its third Moscow location, serving over 60, 000 customers and setting a new single-day service record for the fast food chain.

Naina Yeltsin, wife of President Boris Yeltsin, cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony, held at the new restaurant's Arbat location on Saturday. Presidential aide Sergei Stankevich and Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Malyshkov also attended the celebration which included balloon rides and music.

All the money earned at the opening celebration - over 66 million rubles - was donated to Moscow Children's Oncology Hospital.

McDonald's, first came to Russia in January 1990 with the opening of its restaurant on Pushkin Square. The second location opened last month along with an office block on Ogaryova street, near the Kremlin. The new restaurant is located at 50-52 Arbat, in the heart of old Moscow.

"This new restaurant is truly Russian", said Maureen Kitts, spokeswoman for McDonald's. "It was built with the money we earned at the Pushkin Square restaurant".
