Luzhkov On the Mend

Moscow's Mayor Yury Luzhkov is expected to leave the hospital this week after suffering from a weak heart and high blood pressure, a spokesman said Tuesday.

"He'll be out in a couple of days, but we're still not sure exactly when", said spokesman Igor Zverev. "He'll take a vacation for a week after that and then be back at work".

Luzhkov, a stout man with a love of soccer and swimming, checked into a Moscow hospital last week for high blood pressure resulting from "heart insufficiencies". His spokesman called published reports that he had suffered a small heart attack "nonsense".

In Luzhkov's absence, First Deputy Mayor Boris Nikolsky, who specializes in city services, has been overseeing the Moscow government.
