BMW Hits Minister's Convoy

A BMW without license plates crashed into a convoy carrying Defense Minister Pavel Grachev, injuring several members of the minister's security team, a spokesman for Grachev said Tuesday.

Grachev's car was not touched and the minister was unhurt, he said.

The spokesman said that the BMW drove into the side of a security vehicle accompanying Grachev at 7: 30 A. M. on Monday, nine kilometers from the center of Moscow on Kutuzovsky Prospekt. He said that the passengers were badly injured and that the car was seriously damaged.

The spokesman could not confirm a newspaper report that the passengers in the BMW were from the Russian republic of Chechnya in the Northern Caucasus, but he said that the driver had no license.

Police officials were unavailable for comment.
