Militia Downplays McDonald's Threat

Wednesday's bomb threat at McDonald's on Pushkin Square, which turned out to be a false alarm, was dismissed on Thursday by militia as a common occurrence.

"This happens almost every other day", said Alexander Talabukhin, duty officer at the militia station located in the courtyard of the McDonald's building. "There have been at least 10 calls like that before and nothing's ever happened".

According to Sarah Hall, spokeswoman for McDonald's, a phone call was received at the militia informing of the presence of explosives. At about 8 P. M. militia officials ordered the evacuation of the restaurant and a thorough search of the premises.

Hall said that no explosives had been found, but the restaurant remained closed until Thursday morning. She said there had been no panic among the customers. "As we were not sure about the bomb, the customers were told that the evacuation was due to technical reasons", she said.
