EBRD President In Car Accident

The car carrying the president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Jacques Attali, collided with a truck during a visit to the city of Vladimir, showering Attali with splintered glass but leaving him unhurt, bank officials said Tuesday.

Attali, who met with Central Bank chairman Alexander Gerashchenko and Finance Minister Boris Fyodorov in his two-day visit to Russia, went to Vladimir Monday to tour military factories converting, to civilian production, according to bank officials.

The officials said that his car, a black Chayka, collided with a truck at about 11 A. M. Monday. The side of the Chayka was badly dented and both Attali and officials from the Vladimir region inside the car were covered in splinters of broken glass, but no one was hurt, they said. He later met with local officials, but according to the bank's press secretary, the visit to the factories was cancelled. Attali left Moscow late Tuesday afternoon.
