Trading Starts in Marks

MOSCOW (MT) -- The Moscow Interbank Currency Exchange will start selling Deutsche marks this week, Itar-Tass reported Sunday.

The exchange will start selling Deutsche marks once a week on Feb. 10 for 35 Russian commercial banks that have correspondent accounts at the Dresdner Bank, spokesman Yury Shchegolkov said.

The exchange already handles twice-weekly sales and purchases of U. S. dollars between 70 banks.

The Russian Central Bank will continue to set the official rate of the Deutsche mark, but based on the exchange rate of the dollar, as it does with other currencies.
