Revenue Tops 1 Trillion

MOSCOW (MT)- Russia grossed a record 1. 1 trillion rubles in tax payments in January.

Aleksandr Pochinok - chairman of the budget planning committee of the Supreme Soviet - was quoted in the newspaper Izvestia as saying that the increase was due to more effective collection and stricter tax assessments.

The figure of 1. 1 trillion rubles is close to the 1992 budget deficit of 1. 17 trillion rubles, on a budget of about 15 trillion rubles. Earlier this month, Itar-Tass news agency quoted Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin as saying that tax revenues for 1992 had been 30 percent lower than planned.
