Memorial Coin Minted

MOSCOW (MT) - The Russian Central Bank will release a memorial 1-ruble coin Thursday in honor of Russian geophysicist Vladimir Vernadsky.

The coins, made of copper-nickel alloy, will cost 200 to 300 rubles each, depending on the alloy mix, a Central Bank spokesperson said. The coin will carry the double-headed eagle on one side, and a picture of Vernadsky on the other side. Vernadsky, who pioneered theories on the various layers within the atmosphere, was born 130 years ago on Thursday.

The Central Bank is also preparing to issue new banknotes from 100 to 50, 000 rubles.
