Lithuanian Found Living in Forest

Lithuanian police have found a man who has been living in a forest for 29 years with almost no contact with the outside world, Itar-Tass reported.

The newspaper Letuvos Ritas on Tuesday said the man was found while police were searching the forest for a criminal, the agency reported.

The man, identified only as Vmtsas B. , had worked as a car mechanic until one day in 1964 when he drove into the forest "to breathe the fresh, medicinal air" and found a woodman's lodge.

He told the newspaper that he has lived there ever since. He gathers food in the forest, keeps chickens and makes his own clothes from rabbit skins.

Now 64 years old, he knows little of what has occurred in the outside world since he entered the forest. He does not read newspapers or have a radio.

He told the newspaper that he was glad he never married because he can "feel free, love the forest and be delighted with his life".
