Spartak Escapes With 0-0 Draw

A nine-man Spartak Moscow side was lucky to escape with a 0-0 draw against Turkish Champion Galatasaray in front of a crowd of 40, 000 at Luzhniki Stadium on Wednesday night.

In their first match in Group A of the European Champions League, Spartak were reduced to 10 men after 27 minutes, only to lose Russian international Viktor Onopko in the 60th minute for his second bookable offense.

The Russian's cause was aided in the 76th minute when Galatasaray's Mustafa Kocabey received his second yellow card of the match and was sent off, but this was not enough to boost an uninspired Spartak attack that persistently floundered in front of the Turkish goal.
