Russia Yields to U. S.

MOSCOW (MT) - Russia has given in to U. S. demands to cancel the sale of missile technology to India, sacrificing contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars, according to Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Shokhin.

Interfax quoted Shokhin as saying that Russia would still proceed with the sale of two cryogenic rocket boosters to India but that it would break contracts to transfer to India the technology required to manufacture its own boosters. He said that by refusing to transfer this technology, Russia would lose 80 percent of the value of a contract it had signed with India.
