Gas Strike in Siberia

MOSCOW (MT) - Striking gas workers in western Siberia threatened Wednesday to reduce supplies to central Russia unless the government pays its 35 billion ruble ($29 million) gas debt, Itar-Tass reported.

The strike committee in the city of Nadim has instructed managers of gas-production enterprises to cut supplies by 10 percent as of Nov. 26. A total of 44 gas plants have been on strike since Monday, Itar-Tass said.

Interfax reported that the strikers, among them workers, physicians and teachers, blocked roads leading to Nadim Wednesday morning.
