A dollar it's not

Local authorities in the formerly closed nuclear complex of Krasnoyarsk-26 are issuing their own currency because of the cash shortage in the region, Izvestia reported this week.

Employees of the nuclear energy stations who have not been paid in the past three months, can now use the "augram" parallel to the ruble.

The money, which looks like an American dollar, is worth 31 rubles and can be obtained at one store in the city, Izvestia reported. Instead of a portrait of George Washington, the crest of the Yenisey Region adorns the bill, portraying a lion clutching a shovel and sickle in his paws.
