Debt Load Prioritized

MOSCOW (MT) - Economics Minister Andrei Nechayev said Wednesday Russia was now laying less stress on attracting new foreign aid and government credits and its main goal now was creating the conditions for commercial investment, Itar-Tass reported.

Nechayev told reporters outside the Congress of People's Deputies, "We were promised much more than we are getting".

He said Russia would now concentrate on rescheduling the $70 billion debt of the former Soviet Union and on finding support in the West for a massive inflow of consistent foreign investment.
