aCar Honors Monte Carlo Wins

Thirty years on from the spectacular hat trick of Mini wins in the Monte Carlo rally, Rover Group has unveiled the ASV 30, an Anniversary Concept Vehicle epitomizing the spirit of Mini in a contemporary style.

It led a parade lap before the start of the 1997 event in Monte Carlo in January.

The product of a joint Rover/BMW design team, ACV 30 celebrates the 1964, 1965 and 1967 wins at Monte Carlo that astonished the motor sport world. With these victories, in true David and Goliath style, the baby of motor sport established itself as a force to be reckoned with. ACV 30 represents Mini as it may have been entered today as a rally supercar.

ACV 30's chassis is based on the mid-engined MGF running gear using that car's 1.8-liter 16-valve K-Series engine.

The body is manufactured from hand-crafted aluminum panels and the car is finished in the classic red and white livery of the famous BMC Competitions Department rally cars.

As wonderful looking as it is, unfortunately the ACV 30 is not the new Mini for the Millenium. That car, which Rover confirmed at the Paris Motor Show at the end of last year, will be a front-drive car, powered by an engine jointly developed by Chrysler and the BMW Group.
