Hotel for Children
At a meeting with members of the government in Sochi in February, President Vladimir Putin suggested that the Azimut hotel in Sochi be refitted and repurposed for the needs of talented children. The large hotel complex, which has over 700 guest rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, several restaurants, spa facilities and meeting rooms, will become the Russian Children's Development Center. The hotel will close to guests in May.
Radisson Sweeps Awards
At the annual Russian Hospitality Awards ceremony this year, three Radisson Hotels took four of the top prizes. Radisson Blu Paradise Resort & Spa in Sochi won the awards for Resort Hotel of the Year and Spa Hotel of the Year; the Radisson Hotel in Kaliningrad was named Eco Hotel of the Year, and the Radisson Royal Hotel in Moscow took top honors as MICE Hotel (Meetings-Incentive-Conferences-Events) of the Year. Radisson Hotels are part of the Rezidor Hotel Group and have been represented in Russiasince 1991.
Construction Never Ends
The Sochi municipal administration plans to build an apartment-style hotel on a 15.6 hectares (about X acres) of land in the Lazarevsky district. The 25-floor high-rise hotel would have about 250 rooms, a health and wellness center, and recreational facilities. The city seeks investors for this project, which is planned fora 2018 opening.
On March 20 during the spring equinox, the Imeretinskiy Hotel in Sochi celebrated Earth Day with tree-planting and other events for staff, city residents and local children. The Imeretinskiy Hotel is also the only hotel in Russia that meets all the required and preferred requirements for barrier-free environments. The entire building and territory is fitted with ramps, special surfaces, and automatic doors that allow people with special needs to feel comfortable and at home.
