Baker Botts L.L.P. Announces Expansion in Moscow

Baker Botts, a leading global law firm in the energy, technology and life sciences sectors, has recently expanded its Moscow office. As of August 2011 Jason Bennett relocated from Baker Botts’ Dallas office to support the firm’s oil and gas projects practice in Moscow. The firm is also proud to announce that Sergei Stepanov, a resident Special Counsel in Moscow, has been elected to the partnership in the firm with effect from 1 January 2012.

Previously a partner in Baker Botts’ Dallas office, Jason Bennett has over 12 years of deep experience in energy project development and finance, including assisting clients with developing, structuring, and negotiating upstream, midstream, and downstream oil, gas, and unconventional energy projects and transactions. He has particular experience with LNG projects, including developing liquefaction and regasification projects and facilities as well as advising regarding LNG trading and investment transactions.
Mr. Bennett graduated with a B.A. degree (with honors) in economics from The University of Texas and obtained his J.D. (with honors) at Georgetown University Law Center. He is qualified by the State Bar of Texas and New York State Bar and is a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN).
For the last several years the legal directories Law & Politics, Chambers USA and Who’s Who Legal have recommended Jason as a top oil and gas projects specialist.

Sergei Stepanov, Partner, Moscow
Sergei Stepanov has extensive experience in crossborder mergers and acquisitions in the oil and gas, petrochemical, mining and telecommunications sectors as well as technology and infrastructure joint ventures. He also advises on upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas transactions, projects involving other natural resources and construction of commercial and industrial facilities. Prior to joining Baker Botts in 2008, Sergei Stepanov worked at two other major international law firms in Moscow for ten years.
Sergei obtained a law degree from Kazan State University and LL.M. from Emory University School of Law. For the past several years Sergei has been recognized by the Best Lawyers International - Russia in M&A, Energy and Project Development and was recommended by Legal500 in Corporate/ M&A, Telecommunications, Energy and Natural Resources in 2011.
