Allen & Overy appoints Edwin Tham as managing partner of its Moscow office and global head of the Russia/CIS practice group.

Allen & Overy LLP is pleased to announce the appointment of Edwin Tham as managing partner of its Moscow office and global head of the Russia/CIS practice group, leading the development of Allen & Overy's Russia/CIS practice across the global network.

Edwin Tham joined Allen & Overy's Moscow office in 1997 and has headed up the Corporate practice of the Moscow office for the last seven years. He has advised extensively on a number of high-profile M&A transactions in Russia and the CIS in a wide range of business sectors including oil and gas, oilfield services, gold mining, financial institutions and manufacturing. Edwin is recognised as a leading Corporate and M&A lawyer by IFLR1000 2011, Chambers Global 2011, Legal 500 2011 and Vedomosti's Best Lawyer in 2010.

The appointment follows the planned retirement of Tony Humphrey after four years as managing partner in Moscow and 30 years as a partner at Allen & Overy’s London office. Edwin’s appointment will take effect from May 1, 2011 and Tony will be leaving Allen & Overy on April 30, 2011.

Partner Stephen Matthews will succeed Tony as head of the Moscow Banking practice, while partner Anton Konnov will take over from Edwin as the head of the Moscow Corporate practice. In these new roles, Stephen and Anton will focus on widening the key relationships across their practice areas and on supporting the development of the Banking and Corporate practices respectively.
