Credit Card Debt Growing Rapidly

The country's top 57 banks have almost 800 billion rubles ($24 billion) in credit card debt in the first half of this year, accounting for 70 percent of all credit card debt in the country, according to research by information agency published Monday.

Sberbank holds the leading position in the rating, carrying over 200 billion rubles in card debt, followed by Russky Standard and Tinkoff Credit Systems.

A previous rating done by showed that over the course of last year the 67 top banks that took part in the poll were carrying a total of 571 billion rubles in credit card debt.
