Motorist Escapes Crash Scene by Jumping Off Bridge

Why hit and run when you can hit and jump? This seems to have been the reasoning of one stunt-inclined driver in the Krasnoyarsk region of Siberia, who fled the scene of a road accident Wednesday morning by leaping into one of the largest rivers in Russia.

One witness of the accident followed the driver and saw him abandon his car on a bridge, climb over the railing and jump into the Yenisei River, the regional police said in a statement Wednesday, Interfax reported.

Police officers are patrolling the banks of the Yenisei in search of the runaway.

The abandoned Toyota, whose driver was allegedly to blame for the accident, belongs to a 25-year-old resident of nearby Lesosibirsk, the police said.

The Toyota collided with two buses at about 7 a.m. local time in the Leninsky district of Krasnoyarsk.

No one was was injured in the accident, a police spokeswoman said.
