Foreign Ministry Gives Dutch Until 6 p.m. to Explain Diplomat Attack

Correction appended

The Foreign Ministry has given the Netherlands until 6 p.m. Tuesday to provide an explanation for the attack on a Russian diplomat living in The Hague.

The ultimatum was published on the ministry's website following a visit to the ministry by Dutch Ambassador Ron van Dartel, who was handed a protest note Tuesday morning.

"Our reaction depends on how the Dutch respond to these events," President Vladimir Putin said in Bali, where he was attending the APEC forum .

Due to an editing error, an earlier version of this story said Putin made his remark in the official Foreign Ministry statement.
