A man detonated an explosive device at a check-point on the Russia-Ukraine border on Friday, killing himself and leaving two guards in serious condition, the Ukrainian border service said.
The incident happened at 12:44 a.m., when a minibus with four passengers and Moldovan plates was stopped while attempting to travel from Russia to Ukraine at the crossing near Bachevsk in the Sumsky region, Interfax reported.
An additional passenger was found hiding in the vehicle and was detained after presenting a Russian passport that did not belong to him. He blew himself up using a concealed device when taken into a cabin for questioning, badly injuring the border-guards.
Security has been stepped up in the aftermath of the blast, while the check-point was reopened at 8 a.m. following a temporary suspension of operations.
