A polling station in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don was raided twice by unknown intruders who created havoc within and stole documents, apparently aiming to disrupt elections for the regional legislature.
The shock of the incidents at Polling Station No. 1765 gave a senior elections official a heart attack. The woman was taken away by an ambulance but returned later to continue tallying votes, Interfax reported.
"It is an absolutely mysterious and strange incident that we are investigating. It is completely unclear what the people wanted," said Sergei Usov, head of the Rostov regional elections committee.
During one of the raids, lists of constituents were stolen and thrown out on the street. The lists included private information such as addresses and whether or not the individuals had voted.
The theft occurred after voting had ended and in no way influenced election results, an elections official told RIA Novosti.
Law enforcement authorities were investigating.
