A World War II artillery shell was discovered in the Fili park in western Moscow, police said Sunday.
The shell with the fuse was found on Saturday at the park's pier.
"At 2:25 p.m., police received information from the park's security service that a shell had been discovered at the park's pier on the embankment of the Moscow River. The ordnance was identified as a heavily corroded World War II shell with the detonator," police said.
The place of the find was cordoned off until the arrival of sappers who took the shell away for disposal.
There have been several instances of such finds in the past. In November 2012, divers found an unexploded 152mm World War II shell in the Moscow River, near the village of Metrostroi.
In 2006, a villager in Tajikistan dug up a shell and took it home, where it later exploded and killed his family.
