Policeman Hospitalizes Colleagues Trying to Arrest Him for Graft

A policeman knocked down and hospitalized three of his colleagues who were trying to arrest him for taking a bribe in Russia's far east, a news report said Thursday.

Police in the Amur Region received information that a department chief had demanded that a businessman give him a bribe in return for his truck, which had been impounded, Interfax reported.

Just after the bribe changed hands, police officers moved to arrest the crooked chief. But the chief resisted energetically and knocked down three officers with his car.

"An official investigation is underway," said the local Interior Ministry. "The arrested man has been released from duty. If his guilt is confirmed he will be fired."
