155 years ago today, on May 30, 1858, the far eastern city of Khabarovsk was founded at the confluence of two major rivers, the Amur and the Ussuri. In accordance with the 1858 treaty, the Russian Empire occupied the left bank of the river Amur, whilst the right bank of the Ussuri fell under the jurisdiction of the Chinese.
