Terror Plot Suspects Detained in Nizhny Novgorod

Three members of Hizb ut-Tahrir Islamist group are suspected of conspiring to conduct terrorist plots in Nizhny Novgorod region, Interfax reported Tuesday.

Local police said that three members of an organization were "searching for devices" to conduct a terrorist attack.

Police said that radical Islamist literature along with hand grenades and ammunition were discovered during the search of the Hizb ut-Tahrir members.

One of the group members, whose name was not provided, was trying to widespread radical literature among the locals, the report said.

All of the group members are being investigated under a Criminal Code article "Preparation to conduct terrorist act", punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment.

Hizb ut-Tahrir, a pan-Islamic political organization are seen as extremist by some experts. In 2003 it was put on the list of banned terrorist organizations by the country's Supreme Court.
