Firefighters managed to douse a blaze in a decommissioned building at the fueling complex at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport after it was struck by a lightning, averting a possible catastrophe.
The building, which was standing empty and was being prepared for demolition, went up in flames during a thunderstorm late Wednesday afternoon, Interfax reported Thursday.
Firefighters localized and extinguished the blaze, which had engulfed the entire building, with an area of six by eight meters, by 5.30 p.m., thereby preventing it from spreading it to a nearby container holding 50 tons of fuel.
The airport's fueling station was not damaged and was working to its normal capacity Thursday.
