Weather records have been broken two days in a row as the air temperature in Moscow reached nearly 30 degrees Celsius, forecasters said Wednesday.
Wednesday's temperature rose to 28.8 C, which is 0.9 C higher than the previous record for May 15 set in 1946, Interfax reported, citing the federal weather service.
A record high of 29.7 C was set on Tuesday, and forecasters think the bar will be raised again Thursday, with temperatures expected to be between 29 and 31 C.The weather bureau said that temperatures have been abnormally high for May, and has also issued a severe weather warning.
"The temperature for May has been 4 C higher than normal, but in the last few days that figure has reached 9 C," the weather bureau said in a statement carried by Interfax.
Forecasters warned of intermittent heavy showers and even thunderstorms in parts of the Moscow region in the coming days.
Temperatures are expected to dip Friday and Saturday.
