Moscow to Host 2014 Worlds in Basketball

MIES, Switzerland — The 2014 world championship in 3-on-3 basketball, which could soon become an Olympic sport, will be held in Moscow,

The International Basketball Federation says the tournament will be held over five days in June.

Moscow will also host an IOC executive board meeting in August which will decide whether to include the half-court, street-style version of basketball at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Russian sports minister Vitaly Mutko says "we support FIBA's efforts to make 3x3 an Olympic discipline."

The 2014 world championship will be the second 3-on-3 tournament, after the inaugural event in Athens last August.

Serbia was the men's champion, the United States won the women's event and France won the mixed gold.
