Today in History, April 23

A 1985 Melodiya release of a Modern Talking album.

Forty-nine years ago today, on April 23, 1964, the Soviet record company Melodiya was established. The company, which held a monopoly on music recordings until 1986, offered a window into the world of music for millions of Soviets and was the vehicle for Soviet performers to become famous. Today, Melodiya primarily restores and releases old albums.
