3 Die in Head-On Collision on Garden Ring

Three people died in a car accident in central Moscow in the early hours of Friday morning, police said.

The accident happened around 2 a.m. on Friday on Sadovaya-Samotyochnaya Ulitsa, close to the Tsvetnoi Bulvar metro station, Interfax reported.

A Toyota Camry moving along the outer side of the Garden Ring veered into the oncoming lane, smashed into two other vehicles and collided head-on with a Lada 2109 moving in the opposite direction.

News reports said the Lada was hit with such impact that it broke through a set of railings and hung on the edge of a nearby overpass. As a result of the collision, the Lada driver and two passengers died from their injuries. The Toyota driver was hospitalized, police said.

Police are carrying out further inquiries into the accident.
